Support the Coalition

The Coalition receives no government funding. That is a deliberate choice rather than a shortfall: an organization that monitors how states treat people in their custody cannot be paid by those states and still be believed. It means the work is funded by people who decide, one at a time, that it should continue.

A gift here pays for the ordinary and unglamorous parts of that work. Training the monitors who walk into places of detention and write down what they find. Pressing governments to ratify the Optional Protocol and to build the national preventive mechanisms it requires. Reading court orders one by one and publishing what each of them actually held, with the citation, so that a lawyer somewhere can check it rather than take anyone’s word.

Your card is not entered on this website and never reaches it. The form below collects the amount, whether you want the gift to repeat, and how to send you a receipt. When you continue, the payment itself is completed on Stripe, which is certified to handle card data; this site is told only that a gift succeeded and for how much. A monthly gift can be stopped at any time by sending one email, with no notice period and no form to find.
