The International Coalition to End Torture (the Coalition) is an independent non-governmental organization headquartered at Place de Cornavin 7, 1201 Geneva, Switzerland. We operate this website at endtorture.org. Our contact email is info@endtorture.org.
The Coalition is not government-funded and operates entirely through voluntary donations from individuals and foundations. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers or commercial third parties.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only the information you voluntarily provide to us:
- Contact form submissions: name, email address, organization (optional), and the message you send us.
- Newsletter sign-ups: email address only.
- Donations, when online giving is available: card details are collected and processed by Stripe, not by the Coalition, and we never receive or store them. Please review Stripe's privacy policy (stripe.com/privacy) for how it handles your payment data.
Our hosting provider automatically records standard access log data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, time of visit) for security and performance monitoring. The Coalition does not use this data for profiling or advertising. Retention of these logs is controlled by our hosting provider.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information you provide solely for the following purposes:
- Responding to your contact form messages and media inquiries.
- Sending the Coalition campaign updates and reports to newsletter subscribers. You may unsubscribe at any time by emailing info@endtorture.org.
- Improving the security and functionality of this website.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making, profiling, or any commercial purpose.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
For individuals in the European Economic Area, our legal basis for processing personal data is:
- Consent: for newsletter subscriptions. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests: for responding to contact inquiries and maintaining website security.
5. Data Sharing and Third Parties
The Coalition does not sell or rent your personal data. We share data only in these limited circumstances:
- Payment processor (Stripe), when online giving is available, to process donations. Stripe acts as an independent data controller for payment data.
- Hosting provider (Hostinger): your data is stored on servers operated by Hostinger, which is bound by a data processing agreement.
- Legal obligation: if required by a valid legal process, court order, or to protect the safety of individuals.
- Google (Google Fonts). This website loads typefaces from Google's font servers. As a result, your IP address and basic request information are disclosed to Google each time a page loads. We are working to serve these typefaces from our own server so that this disclosure stops.
- Newsletter delivery. Email addresses submitted through the newsletter form are stored on this website and may be transferred to an email delivery platform provided by our hosting provider in order to send campaign updates.
6. Cookies
This website sets only the essential cookies required for WordPress to function (session management and security nonces). We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels, and no third-party analytics tags are currently served. If we introduce analytics in future, we will update this policy and ask for your consent before any non-essential cookie is set. Note that loading Google Fonts, described in section 5, discloses your IP address to Google even though it sets no cookie. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, though some site functionality may be affected.
7. Data Retention
Contact form messages are delivered to our mailbox and retained for up to 24 months, after which they are deleted. Newsletter subscriber email addresses are retained until you ask to be removed. Retention of server access logs is controlled by our hosting provider.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, email info@endtorture.org. We will respond within 30 days. If you are in the EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
9. Security
This website operates exclusively over HTTPS. All form submissions include CSRF protection through WordPress security nonces. We do not store payment card data on our servers.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
